Primarchs in progress and more

Almost a year ago, that's how long it has been since an update. Shameful but proud at the same time, I sit while typing this. A lot has happend: *Together with a friend I've started a small company called "Artificer Terrain". We hope to present you with a functional website by the end of April. We aim to produce cheap solutions for hobbyists. From gaming terrain to counters, movement trays, display bases.....you name it, it can be made with a lasercutter and we'll do it for you. The kick for us will be "custom design stuff". So: if you have an idea/need...please contact us! *I succesfully dragged the Massive voodoo guys to Sprang-Capelle(The Netherlands) for a beginners painting workshop. These boys will return somewhere in December '14 to repeat this course before we'll try and set up an advanced painting class....somewhere in 2015. In the meantime I'm also discussing a Golem studio workshop at the same location in September....Keep your eyes open! *I won some medals at SMC with Angron, a diorama and my "best of show" from the Fang in 2013 BUT MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!!!!
Since Halloween 2013 I've become a father. My lovely wife gave birth to a super baby called Lars! He's approaching 6 months and growing very well. We've been blessed a healthy strong baby, who has a relative stable sleeping cycle! But let me spice this up with some pictures:
And as the title of the post suggests, as long-time fan of the "horus heresy" story I've been working on the primarchs a lot. I've "finished" Angron somewhere in October & Fulgrim around March. This his how they look right now:
However, not completely pleased with the result I've contacted some very good painters that I know & respect. After some pointers from Peter'Baphomet'Toth, Roman "Jarhead" Lappat, Pascal Rooze, Damien Pedley & Tommie Soule, I've decided to try something I've never did before: Pimp the paintjob after I "finished" it. So I hope to bring you some better versions of these not to far from now....I promise it won't take me another year ;-) Cheers!

It's ALIVE!!!!

How long has it been....well simply put: I can't even remember. For a while I was really demotivated about blogging as I'm kinda disappointed by the quality of my pictures. That way, the mini's always look worse than they are in real life. I think a lot of blog's suffer the same fate. I find it extremely hard to invest time in setting up my mini studio, the lights and do the effort required to make at least some decent pictures. Additionally my camera is a little bit outdated. even with macro settings, tripod, etc... my phone makes better pictures :-( I should get a tripod for my phone, I guess. But anyway, past months have been quite eventful on the real life & with painting. So let's bring you up-to-date. I'm sure you all heard about the bananalicious contest on the massive-voodoo blog. In case you haven't: Shame on you! I've pushed myself to finish sorcha(Warmachines/Khador) as she was standing-face painted and all- on my desk for 6 years now. I also included my first infinity mini. I've got myself the Japanese sectorial army starter and I fully intend to paint them all to get some infinity games in. When however, is a question that I can't answer yet ;-) As I had a mishap with my true-scale wordbearer, I included an old model at the last minute. I didn't win anything, but I was glad to be a part of the "event". Without the proper support, these things die and that would be a shame.

Next "milestone" was my first attendance to "painting crusade" in Brussels. If you don't know the event, you are missing out. The level of entries was just completely mind blowing. I liked seeing my entry a midst some slayer sword winners . And it got even better the moment I discovered that my duel was awarded a Bronze medal in the advanced class. Not quite yet aiming for "master-class", but w'll get there :-P

So fast forward to "The fang"-the new name for "de lage landen painting competition": I entered with the same duel(which automatically was selected due to lack of any competition) and a single 40k mini(a last minute entry finished between 22nd of March and the 11th of April). As time was running short, I searched my box with "character" models and found a special edition space marine. The pose spoke to me and said 2 words:"Last stand" And as I wanted to try and experiment with some brighter colours I opted for the "firehawks" chapter as shown in the "badab war" imperial armour books.Orange, yellow, red....bright colours?Check! The most proud I am about my last minute showbase. I finally saw the light and started to enjoy elaborating on the base and thus the story. I always considered it a burden, but now for the very first time I actually enjoyed it. By the way, the base was build and painted in three evening :-D Not to shabby

these are still some w.i.p's Expect some more pictures in a next update

So that's a quick update of the hobby events. Apart from that I'm proud to announce that by the end of October I should become a father for my first time. I'm really looking forward to it. Yes it will probably have repercussions on the amount of painting that I get done. But honestly,....screw that! Happy to be excpecting, I am!!!

As a final note a small "sneak preview": I'm trying to wrap up the practical arrangements for organizing a Massive Voodoo workshop in the Southern part of the Netherlands. Expect more info soon!

I need a second job :-D

Okay GD UK has come and gone....and what an impact. Last year, me and some friends decided to trade games day UK for a throne of skulls tournament, as GD UK 2011 was a total disappointment: -No new releases -Almost no news whatsoever -Way to much attention for dreadfleet -etc... However...how different this year's edition appears to have been. Forge world goodness for everyone :-D The terminators are amazing, the book looks SUPER!, the jetbikes are good but I'm not totally convinced, the tanks are nothing special but fit in the setting. But the one release that tops it all is this famous angry dude. Man, I'm going to enjoy painting that model to the best of my abilities. The expectations were high for the primarch models, but if they maintain this level....I'll need an extra job. I'll also need extra hobby time. Conclusion: Winning big on a lottery is the only solution ;-) Well not really, but progress will be sower as I'd like it to be. However, my cabint WILL eventually be adorned by at least 18 primarch models(maybe add the odd emperor, deamonic primarch...who knows). This bring me to my final point: Let me direct all my followers and coincidential visitors to this great website/blog that has been sparking my interest for a while. I really love the style. Content is good( some very good painting articles). And most of all he has the most interesting give aways ;-) So enough hornblowing... I present you Masterminis.net Check it out, it's worth it. You could even win a signed copy of the super cool angron model that I was talking about earlier! And how could I resist such an opportunity :-D Anyway, that's it for now.... I have some pictures to show but they'll have to wait as I can't get them to this computer. Some spoilers....well, I'm wrapping up the build of my first 1/35th scale model of a Pzkfw IV aufs H( I showed some progress on the tank commander in previous post). And then I'll try to elaborate on some alternative weathering techniques. A lot of firsts are coming up for me. And the little princess is coming along...I sculpted a tiny, tiny frog for the base of that one. And I'm quite pleased with it. So shortly some eye-candy for my estimated guests.

Stagnation

Not really, but that's what it feels like. After pushing myself to finish the dark eldar, it feels like I'm doing  nothing for the moment. Actually there's quite a lot going on at the moment.
As illustrated by the pictures I'm venturing outside of my "comfort zone " by trying on static military modelling. Talking about return to my roots. This is how I started with the hobby in the first place.

And of course I'm still working on my sculpting/ converting skills. I'm reasonably happy with this tru scale dark apostle. Now lets get some paint on him

As a final remark I must say that as a "fantasy " mini painter I'most of the time not over the moon about the style of miniature painting in military modelling. The vehicles are most of the time excellent. But the soldiers etc... don't do it for me. So let's try to do it better on this tank commander
